The Barista Touch Impress is Breville's most automated semi-automatic: an integrated grinder, assisted dosing, the Impress lever tamping system and a touchscreen that walks you through each drink, all in one $1,500 machine. Owners who use it daily are genuinely happy with it, and the machine does what it promises — it removes most of the decisions that make espresso intimidating. There is a consistent caveat from people further into the hobby, though, and it is worth hearing early: the touchscreen is the feature owners care about least over time. The Barista Pro is the Barista Express with its heating system swapped out. Same all-in-one shape, same 54mm portafilter, same conical burr grinder built into the left side, but the thermocoil gives way to Breville's ThermoJet, which is at temperature in about three seconds and moves from brewing to steaming without the usual wait.
